The greatest locations around Appenzell are:

Appenzell: lovely village with great network of rambling trails, including ‘experience trails’ such as the barefoot trail near Gonten, a trail which enables you to experience nature, and the circular chapel trails.
Chäserrugg:  enjoy scenic views down to the valley and the Walensee lake, discover gastronomy of Toggenburg
Saxer Lücke: a great walk through the Alpine garden on the summit that reveals over 300 species of Alpstein plants.
Walensee: this lake with its breathtaking views links the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus and forms the western end of the “Heidiland” vacation region.
Ebenalp: reach the picturesque Seealpsee lake, with the majestic Säntis in the background, and enjoy a lunch at the Äscher mountain restaurant, perched at the foot of a 100-metre-high vertical ledge.
Hoher Kasten: discover the breathtaking view over Appenzell and the St. Gall Rhine valley, and admire the ridge towards Kreuzberge.
Fälensee: an incredible lake, set between the steep cliffs of Widderalpstöcke and the peaks of Hundstein, Altmann, Saxerfirst and Kreuzberge.
Säntis: this legendary mountain range offers some of Europe’s most stunning natural scenery, unique panoramic views over six countries.
Appenzeller Schaukäserei: Although the recipe for the herb brine remains a well-kept secret, visitors can create their own herb blends and take them home as souvenirs.
Chocolarium: Enjoy this interactive tour that takes you on a sweet journey to discover the secret. If you love chocolate, you can’t do without a visit to the Chocolarium.
St. Gallen: visit the town and its baroque cathedral, with the abbey library, which houses some 170,000 documents – some of them handwritten and dating back over a thousand years.
Rorschach: take a boat trip on Lake Constance and visit this picturesque port town with its Latin flair.
